Buying A Home With Acreage: Is Is Right For You?

Posted on

Buying a home with acreage is a wise idea for lots of people. Whether you need acreage or not is dependent on a few things, including what you plan on doing with all that land. Here's a guide to help you determine if you need acreage with your property. When you go looking for acreage for purchase, you will feel prepared to make a decision.

You want to develop the land

Are you wanting to buy acreage along with your property because you want to develop the land later? If so, this is something you'd want to speak to a zoning specialist and your real estate agent about. Not all areas, whether they've got existing homes or not, can be readily developed, and there's a lot you have to do to get this done. If developing and building is your goal, however, you can look at acreage for purchase that is designed for this purpose to see if it's a good fit for you.

You want to farm

Having a farm is a great idea and a common reason for wanting to buy property with acreage. If you do want to farm, consider buying acreage for purchase on the outside of town and with water rights, because otherwise, you might end up with a lot of land you cannot use because of city ordinances and lack of water rights overall. Acreage isn't always necessary to own a few farm animals either if you don't want a full-blown farm. Your real estate agent can help you find the right land for your needs.

You want privacy

Acreage doesn't always equal privacy, but it's often the best way to get just that. Consider buying homes on acreage that have a private lane leading up to the property, and only consider acreage for purchase that can have a home built in the center of the land. This way, even if someone were to purchase acreage near your property in the future and build on it, you would still have the relative privacy you desire.

When you buy acreage, make sure it's what you really need. Your realtor can show you several lots of acreage for purchase so you can see just how large these areas of land really are. When you see how much an acre is, it can help you determine if you really need that much, or if simply having a larger yard is enough to meet your property space needs.
